Preventive Care

Your pet can benefit greatly from regular wellness examinations or checkups. Whether your pet is a youngster, a “senior citizen,” or any age in between, wellness examinations provide an excellent opportunity for us to conduct a thorough physical examination and develop a health profile for your pet. This information will help us identify medical problems and any other issues that can affect your pet’s health and quality of life.

A wellness examination includes an evaluation of all of your pet’s major organ systems. We’ll use the wellness visit to ask you questions about your pet’s behavior, appetite, exercise habits, and regular activities at home. This is also an excellent time for us to discuss any routine diagnostic testing that may benefit your pet or to recommend any vaccinations that may be due. Vaccinations play a crucial role in effective wellness care. They protect your pet against a wide array of preventive and deadly diseases. Vaccines for dogs include those that guard against parvovirus, distemper virus, adenovirus-2, rabies, bordetella, and leptospirosis. Vaccines for cats include herpesvirus-1, feline calicivirus, feline panleukopenia virus, feline leukemia, rabies, immunodeficiency virus, chlamydia felis, and feline infectious peritonitis.

If it’s been more than a year since your pet’s last physical exam, give us a call at 845-481-0978 today!

We understand that surgery is a stressful time for any pet parent, but at Kingston Animal Hospital, we work hard to make our surgery suite a worry-free zone. How do we do that?

Before any procedure, your veterinarian will perform a physical exam on the patient. However, because there is always the possibility that a physical exam alone may not identify all health problems, we require pre-anesthetic blood tests to be performed within 30 days of the procedure. We will use the information obtained from these tests to tailor an anesthetic protocol, especially for your pet so that he/she will be as safe and comfortable during the surgical procedure.

Some of our hospital’s surgical procedures include:

  • Cesarean section
  • Cherry eye surgery (third eyelid)
  • Cystotomy
  • Dog and cat neuter (castration)
  • Dog and cat spay (ovariohysterectomy)
  • Ear hematoma repair
  • Exploratory abdominal surgery
  • Foreign body removal
  • Gastrointestinal
  • Hernia repair
  • Orthopedic & soft tissue
  • Splenectomy
  • Wound repair

If you’re considering surgery for your pet, call 845-481-0978 to schedule a consultation!

**Our Year-Round Dental Special includes a complete cleaning, scaling, and polishing for just $650! This price includes bloodwork and IV fluids as well.**

One of the best ways to extend the life of your pet is to take care of their teeth. Like humans, pets are susceptible to tartar build-up and periodontal disease. Infected gums and abscessed teeth can be sources of potential infection to the kidneys, liver, and heart. We recommend an annual dental exam and teeth cleaning to preserve your pet’s healthy teeth and gums.

Our dentistry services for dogs and cats include:

  • Ultrasonic scaling & polishing of the teeth
  • Dental extractions as needed
  • Oral surgery
  • Diagnosis & treatment of periodontal disease
  • Gingival tumor removals
  • Gingival flap procedures

Because we understand just how crucial your pet’s dental health is to their overall well-being, we’re happy to offer this drool-worthy deal: a complete cleaning, scaling, and polishing for just $650! This price includes bloodwork and IV fluids.

We adhere to the strictest anesthetic and pain management protocols to ensure the safety and comfort of your pet. Proper cleaning of the teeth requires complete cooperation of the patient so that tartar on the cheek and tongue sides of the teeth may be removed. A general anesthetic is used to facilitate doing a thorough job. The veterinarian will perform a physical exam prior to the procedure to check general health and heart function. However, because there is always the possibility that a physical exam alone may not identify all health problems, we require pre-anesthetic blood tests be performed within 30-days of the procedure.

We will use the information obtained from these tests to tailor an anesthetic protocol especially for your pet so that it will be as safe and comfortable as possible during the dental procedure. Your pet will awaken in our intensive care area under direct supervision.

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty six days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Emergencies can be things such as accidental ingestion of rat poison, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment, do not hesitate to call or come in immediately.

Our Client Services team will accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If possible, it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Early detection is key when it comes to treating your pet, and our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with comprehensive in-house diagnostics, including radiology and ultrasound services, as well as an on-site laboratory. This obviously saves time and money. More importantly, we’re able to diagnose your pet quickly and accurately, providing you with priceless peace of mind.

Depending on the reason for your pet’s visit, we might recommend digital X-rays, or radiographs. X-rays use electromagnetic radiation directed towards the body to highlight objects within. They can detect abnormalities including skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage, foreign bodies, and dental disease.

Ultrasound is another powerful diagnostic tool at our disposal. Ultrasound creates a real-time image of an animal’s body. This composite reveals important information about internal processes including the circulatory, skeletal and gastrointestinal systems. It can be used to identify disease, blockages, skeletal fractures, soft tissue damage and other internal injuries.

Many diagnoses are, of course, dependent not on imaging services but laboratory tests. We’re able to perform various blood tests, pre-anesthetic bloodwork, and other types of testing on site instead of sending samples to an outside lab, and the result is, again, a more efficient approach to treatment.

Testing provided in the hospital includes:

Chemistry Panels

  • Liver enzyme screening
  • Pancreatic evaluation
  • Renal (Kidney) profiles

Wellness Screenings

  • Complete blood counts
  • General chemistries
  • Blood gases
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal testing (parasites)
  • Blood pressure

 Viral Screenings

  • FelV, FIV in cats
  • Parvovirus in dogs

While we do offer an extensive range of on-site testing, it is possible that your pet may need laboratory work beyond our scope. For those cases, we are happy to send blood work or other testing to an outside lab that will send results back to us.

Kingston Animal Hospital is proud to employ advanced imaging technologies and laboratory testing for the benefit of our pet patients. If you have questions about how we can put such technologies to work for your best friend, give us a call at 845-481-0978 today!

We understand that a pet is part of the family. The day your pet enters our hospital it becomes part of our family, too—and our goal is to give them as many happy, healthy years with you as possible. From new puppies and kittens to graying seniors, we’ll be there every step of the way with comprehensive services and the experienced, compassionate care your pets deserve.
